TIG Welding, also known as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), is a welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld. Here is a step-by-step explanation of how TIG welding works:

  1. Preparation: The first step in TIG welding is to prepare the metal weld surface, cleaning and removing any impurities or contaminants that could interfere with the welding process.
  2. Setting up the equipment: TIG welding requires a power source, a welding torch, and shielding gas. The power source supplies the electricity needed to create the arc, while the welding torch holds the tungsten electrode and directs the shielding gas flow.
  3. Starting the electrical arc: After equipment setup, the welding operator initiates the arc by pressing the foot pedal or using a hand control. The tungsten electrode creates an arc between the electrode and the metal surface. The heat input from the arc melts the metal, creating a pool of molten metal.
  4. Adding filler material: The welding technician adds filler material to the molten metal pool using a separate filler rod, which fuses with the metal to create the weld.
